In the Name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

“Oh God! Send blessings, peace, and benedictions on our Master Muhammad: the opening of what was closed, the seal of what preceded, the aid of Truth by Truth, the guide to Your Straight Way, God’s blessings and peace be upon him, his Family, and his Companions as befits his exalted position and grandeur!” – Shaykh Ahmad al-Tijani, may God be pleased with him

Shaykh Abdallah Adhami, a leading Muslim scholar in the West, recently published a calm, reflective essay on apostasy laws in Islam. The article touches on several issues that any Muslim would do well to reflect upon. Ma sha’ Allah, I think as Muslims we really need to raise the level of our discourse to what the shaykh so eloquently demonstrates.

With only a few hours left, insha’ Allah the following resources might still be of benefit. If you don’t have time to go through it all, then at least watch the speech, or part of it. If you learn nothing else, notice the beautiful character that the two shaykhs exhibit towards each other, subhan Allah!

Imam Zaid’s Translations of Imam ibn Rajab’s Lata’if al-Ma`arif:

I pray that God accepts all of our fasting, praying, and other good actions in this blessed month; that He overlooks our faults; and that He increases us and makes this month a proof for us and not against us.

In keeping with a tradition of non-substantive posts or YouTube/Google Video clips of people worth listening to, we [I] present you the khutba of Shaikh Hamza Yusuf. It’s not my fault, really. If I had a personal blog I think I would have more liberty.

As a side note, ma sha’ Allah, I love Shaikh Hamza’s style. I will have to procure a cape much like his. And also a turban. Shaikh Hamza has my vote for the best styled turban I’ve ever seen.

The following is a brief documentary, Can Muslims Get Along with Non-Muslims?. It features a response to the Danish cartoons. Habib `Ali al-Jiffri, a modern scholar and prophetic scion, comments on the affair. It’s not very long (only about 15 minutes) but hopefully of benefit, insha’ Allah.

More of the shaikh’s stuff is at the Guidance Media website, which is really beautiful.
